Gaming Thursday!

Yup, one of those again. The group I normally game with have gotten into Warmachine, we’re attended a few tournaments and are getting into the swing of things. Thursday is our regular gaming night up at Maelstrom Games, this is a gaming centre in Mansfield, near Nottingham, England. They’ve got plenty of gaming space (enough for over 100 players) and hold regular events. Thursdays however are open gaming nights, so, in prep of an upcoming tournament I played Brett Wilkie at 35 points. I can’t remember the Scenario name, but it’s basically the double mosh pit one. I used the following list;

Grissel

Earthborn Dire Troll

Bouncer

10 Fennblades

10 Pgy Burrows

1 Trollkin Champion Hero

1 Fellcaller

Brett was using his Ret force, led by Rahn;

Rahn

Phoenix

Griffin

Mittens

Mittens

Mage Hunter Strike Force + UA

Min Invictors + UA

Mage Hunter Assassin

The Scene was set, winning the roll for the choice of deployments Brett decided to let me go first, I’m more than happy to let this happen, I can feat turn 2, move everything to the other side of the scoring zones (if he doesn’t push up far enough) and stop him from being able to into them getting me a turn 3 win on scenario if needed. Brett’s plan with Rahn is usually to absorb my push, use the push effect from Rahn’s spells to knock me back a little, feat and hammer me with boosted magic rolls.

Turn 1 saw me advance a little, running some of the force and popping the Kriel Stone Bearer full of Fury, granting an armour bonus to most of my force. The Earthborn took up position near some central trees to force the issue in turn 2. The Ret first turn saw a few fennblades die to mini-feated invictor fire and an adventerous pyg got killed by the Mage Hunter Assassin on the charge.

The 2nd turn saw the first clash of the game. The Earthborn ran full pelt into the Ret Lines ending a few inch’s shy of the Invictors. The Rest of the Force Ran, bar a few Fennblades who charged the invictors after they had range after the Vengence Move, the Trollkin Hero who charged the Mage Hunter Assassin (missing with his attack and the extra one granted by the feat). The Pyg’s went undergroud and advanced a little, finally, Grissel’s Feat then moved the entire army forward and into the Ret lines, at least it’d make it a littleharder for him to shoot/magic me while Hallowed Avenger on the Earthborn might grant me a little extra bite if needed.

The Ret retalition came. Rahn telekenised the Eartborn back 2″ and turned it around leaving it at the mercy of the Battle Mages. Before the coming storm however the Pheonix moved into combat with the Stone Bearers and did it’s combustion attack, killing 2 and making two take 2 rolls. This however saved the Earthborn as he went straight into the ‘jack giving him the much needed Defence Bonus. The Invictors and some mittens killed most of the Fennblades while the 2nd unit of battle mages, which were engaged by the long Ball and Chain of the Bouncer tried to beat it a little but turn to the armour bonus of both it’s shield and the Stones Aura they barley scratched it. The last few remaning Battle Mages near Rahn placed themselves between Rahn and the Earthborn as Brett put two and two together and realised that a Trample would put me in melee with their leader.

Turn 3 saw me have a fair few lucky dice rolls. The Fellcaller however didn’t get off to the best start, spraying 5 models but only sending one to his grave. He did however buff the Dygmies making them more likley to make holes in the elves. Grissel showed the Fellcaller how to do it, spraying 6, taking out 4. The Earthborn took out the Pheonix with two swift strokes, POW21 Attacks seem to do that to most things. The Bouncer however earned his place in History. With 5 Battle Mages around him his first two attacks hit, then burning though his reserves 3 more fell, it was brilliant. The Dygmies charged into the Mittens and remaining invictors wiping themĀ  out. Finally the Earthborns Hoof It! Move placed himself infront of Grissel to protect her from Rahn. With not alot remaining (some Mage Hunters, 1 Invictor, 1 Battle Mage and Rahn) Brett had to attempt the kills. Rahns first Force Hammer delt 6 Damage to Grissle, the 2nd did 10 which was transfered over to the Earthborn. The Mage Hunter Strike Force opened fire, but due to some pretty bad rolling they were only averaging one or two points of damage leaving Grissel on 6 Health left.

Turn 4 saw the Earthborn go into Rahn, hit him twice and rip him in two, smush etc :)

Hopefully thats been an enjoyable read, next week I think we’re hoping to get in a 50pt game or two in pratice for yet another tournament, however that one I won’t be attending. I’ll be in touch before then though :)
